Vassar College

Dear Coach,

I would like to take this opportunity to tell you about the rugby program here at Vassar College in the hope that you will inform your players about this great opportunity.

Vassar College Rugby is supported by the Office of Athletics. Players are treated as varsity student-athletes. We have a dedicated full size rugby field, access to indoor practice facilities, the sports medicine staff are at practices and games, and rugby players can letter in rugby.

Vassar competes in the Metropolitan New York Conference and is a member of the Northeast Rugby Union. We try to play an open attacking style of rugby which gives every player an opportunity to develop their game. The team toured Ireland in 1999, England in 2001, and Australia in 2002.

Vassar has earned an international reputation for academic excellence and upon graduation a student will possess a prestigious undergraduate degree that will serve them admirably in their chosen field. As a member of the rugby squad each player will be able to combine their academic studies and athletic pursuits in a balanced manner as the team has mandatory practice three times a week. Should a student choose to attend Vassar they will receive an education second to none both in the classroom and as a rugby player.

Vassar is a highly selective school located near the Catskill Mountains in Poughkeepsie, New York. Students of the highest academic standard only should apply. To give you an idea of the academic range a student should score around 1250 in the SAT or 28 if taking the ACT. They should have a gpa of 3.5 or better and be taking AP classes if possible.

Vassar does not offer athletics scholarships but financial aid is available and is based on the assessed family contribution and the cost of education. In 200-01 60% of Vassar students received financial aid and 53% received more than $17 million dollars in Vassar Scholarship assistance. The bottom line is apply and see what you qualify to receive!

If you would send me the names and addresses of any players that you feel would be interested in attending Vassar I would be very grateful. Please feel free to contact me at work (845) 437-7804 with any questions.

Sincerely,
Tony Brown
