Oklahoma University

The Oklahoma University Rugby Football Club was established in 1974 and has enjoyed a rich history. The team has produced over 20 collegiate All-Americans and numerous National Team players for the United States Eagles, including 2004 captain Tyson Meek. Oklahoma finished the 2004 ranked number 17 nationally out of 200+ programs, a 20-2 record and three tournament championships. OU possesses one of the only rugby clubhouses in America as well as a $100,000 pitch and access to the $9 Million Everest Indoor Training facility. OU has 50 active players and a committed coaching staff and a virtually year round rugby schedule with approximately 40 XV’s matches and 6-8 weeks of sevens in the summer. Some of the events that the club participates in are the Aspen Ruggerfest, The Rugby Bowl in New Orleans, The Oklahoma-Texas Game in Dallas, the Big XII Championship and the play-offs.

Oklahoma University Rugby believes in promoting the game of rugby through exciting events. OU hosts the Oklahoma Rugby Camp at the Everest Indoor Facility in January, The Big XII Rugby Championship in February, Tornado Alley Sevens, a Western US Sevens Super-Qualifier in July, the All-Campus Rugby Tournament in September, the Scrumdown for the Skull: Oklahoma v. Texas Rugby Game in October and the Full Contact Tailgate Party prior to OU football games throughout the fall.
