Rugby Gear and Details
Uniform-You must have proper rugby gear to apply rugby skills at practice and in games. Rugby gear is sturdy and designed for the grabbing and gripping that takes place in practices and games.
Boots-you will need rugby/football/soccer cleats with removable studs. Use aluminum 18 mm studs for forwards and 13 mm studs for backs. Molded cleats and tennis shoes will not work, particularly when the ground is wet. Protect the shoes from wetness with leather protectant on a regular basis. Use what cleats you have, if possible; i.e., soccer or football shoes, and if you are purchasing new shoes, the staff recommends low or mid-height for backs and flankers, and mid- or high-tops for tight five forwards. You can buy the aluminum studs and boots at Goal Kick.
Socks-official red/gold Jesuit hose for games can only be purchased through the team.
Shorts-New Zealand style black shorts with a pocket and drawstrings are the style that we use. We now put the "Jesuit Rugby" on the left leg and these can be purchased only through the team.
Jersey-for practice and games, the official team jersey is Jesuit red and gold four inch hoops with the Jesuit logo on the left chest and black number on the back. These are ordered through the team only. You may use alternate jerseys or your own team jersey for practice. T-shirts and sweatshirts are not appropriate; they tear and rarely make it through a practice.
Mouthpiece-mandatory and a spare is recommended.
Electrical tape-one inch wide, usually black, but red or gold is okay. Highly recommended for practice and games for everyone, but particularly for the front row, second row and # 8. It is used to hold the ears next to the head.
Vaseline-for games and practices, especially for scrum players to protect forehead, face and cheeks from abrasions.
Pads-Approved IRB shoulder pads and headgear is legal and recommended by the staff. These can be purchased from Goal Kick or Rugby Imports.
Spandex-DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!!

Practice and games take place as scheduled-rain or shine. Be prepared at all times with nylon gear to repel water and running shoes for practice on blacktop for any bad weather days. Practice will never be cancelled due to weather.
